Hey Brandon, great site, don’t let it languish, get to posting again!

I haven’t touched a bass in a couple of decades (first bass was a late 70s Kramer with an aluminum neck), but I’m thinking about taking it up again. And when looking at a possible new bass I find I like the looks and practicality of a hollowbody. Your site is a great resource for ideas.

So far it’s either an Eastwood Classic 4, or an Ibanez AFB200 Artcore Bass. Or that seafoam green Galveston that’s been on eBay for so long.

Hands, you can usually get the sound you’re looking for with an overdrive pedal made for guitar. A great example is the classic Ibanez tubescreamer. Robert Been from BRMC actually has one in his pedal board. You can see a couple pics of it from their show in Chapel Hill, NC last year in my flickr stream:

Last year I picked up the comparatively cheap DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 pedal ($40), which make a great bass overdrive, and is a little easier on your budget than a Tube Screamer.

Hi there.
Can anybody recommend a decent distortion/overdrive for a hollowbody?
I’d like something that can be very subtle on the tone while putting a little sustain back but also have options open for big noise – i’m thinking along the lines of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club……

I’m always reading the Hollowbody Bass Archive, and I really love this kind of instrument.
I live in Brazil, and I play in a garage rock band, and I have a small collection of vintage and “pseudo-vintage” basses, including three semi-hollow basses.
Take a look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/delomax – my basses are there, and I believe that some of them will be very uncommon to the most of the readers.
Feel free to write, to publish the photos, etc.

Sorry to read about the loss of your son Caiden.

As Caiden’s dad, please know that Hollowbodybass brings joy to all that visit this site.

Just like when you see an old woodie station wagon, you can’t help but smile whenever you see a hollow body bass. The look is pure poetry, and the warm fat thud (flatwounds rule!) is pure music.

I just bought my son Nick a used sunburst Epiphone Jack Casady for his HS graduation present, and he has fallen in love. He usually plays an F-Bass 5-string (the Canadian bass, not the mandolin style,) but he plays the Epiphone whenever he can. I have no doubt this will get plenty of live playing time in the near future! I hope to find a Rick 4005 for myself at some point. I regret not buying one years ago…

Keep up the good work, Brandon. Caiden would be proud.
