According to Zac, I am a ‘tortoisnob’ because I don’t like the tortoise shell on this bass:
It’s a Kay Model K5965 Hollowbody Bass for those wondering. I dunno. The flamy, tiger-stripedness of it doesn’t do much for me. It’s a little much for such a small piece of plastic. I prefer the 60’s models, which had white plastic parts:

You see, for me, it’s a so-ugly-it’s-pretty sort of thing. Okay, not exactly pretty, but sort of the way you’d want to take home the runtish puppy with the squishy face out of the litter because you feel bad for it. It works because it doesn’t, if that makes any sense.
Although I have to admit I’d take the $195 job in the above pic with the swoopy pickguard and Kelvinator headstock first.
